Winter Semester

Total words: 71

I registered today to start Korean classes at Sogang this coming winter semester, December 4 ‘06 to February 22 ‘07. I’m pumped to be going back to Sogang and looking forward to classes. Clearly once I am back in study mode this blog will become a little more active.

Just a reminder to the other authors, this is a group blog. Hope to see you contributing again in the near future.

  1. Hey, I’m a new member here.  Are there any specific reasons why you chose Sogang University over the others such as Yonsei, Seoul etc....  I would love to study Korean intensively one day but unfortunately I’m already in University studying something else.  Hope you have fun studying in Sogang Uni!

Based on what I know from people who have attended Yonsei I would never go there because they primarily use grammar translation and audiolingualism to teach. Additionally there is very little opportunity for students to speak. Taken together this doesn’t suit my learning style and is directly opposite to my views on teaching learning and language acquisition.

Sogang on the other hand focuses heavily on production and CLT. It’s not perfect, but then neither is my own teaching. But it is very effective and I enjoyed my classes the last time I attended there.

Hi, I’m also a new member here. Just out of curiosity, what do those characters in your screenname mean? I’ve heard that all Korean names have deeper meanings in their 한문 forms.

왕음치 - it’s not a real name. Basically it means king tone deaf.

  6. Hey,

I’m thinking about going to Sogang during my winter break when I go to university in Korea. How did you like the course? Do you think I can fit it in the winter break? I’m aware Korean Unis have a long winter break but I’m not sure on what day they start.

Please follow up or email me! smile
