다시 합시다!

Total words: 216

Greetings fellow Korean enthusiasts

I’ve signed up to be an author on this blog with the view of getting things going again around here. An unkempt blog becomes off putting to new users and regulars alike and so by posting about the currently and newly available books and resources for learning Korean I hope to stimulate discussion to help us all in our goal of learning this at times mystifying but ultimately rewarding language.

A little about me. I’ve been living in Korea for one year so far in the city of 대전 (Daejeon) and studying Korean for the same length of time. I briefly wrote a column in the Korea Herald on my experiences as a learner of Korean but found the article specification too limiting and the word count too low to discuss anything in much depth.

In the coming days and weeks I’ll be reviewing and sharing some of the new and as of yet un-discussed books and online resources I’ve recently found. Particularly I will be featuring reviews of two books that have not had a proper write up yet, the polyglot Dr Alexander Arguelles’s ‘A Historical, Literary and Cultural Approach to the Korean Language’ and Miho Choo’s ‘Using Korean: A Guide to Contemporary Usage’.

여러분 다시 한국어에 대해서 대화 합시다!

  2. Didnt’ you do SHOOTING WORDS for a while?  I’ve been looking forward to having some other Korean language learner bloggers...but whenever I find one, they delete their blog.

Of course, considering how infrequently I’ve been blogging, perhaps I should do the same…

    Amanda,
if you should ever give up your blog feel free to blog here. I may not be active, but I have no plans to remove the site. It’s not costing me any extra to keep it running along side my other sites.

  4. Thanks for the info.  I don’t think I’ll give mine up...I have three blogs on that site, and I don’t want to give any of them up, and I use a free platform, so it’s no extra expense.

I’ve actually considered asking if I can blog here, but I don’t know what I’d actually write about.  I haven’t taken any classes and think my level is pretty poor.

    Amanda,
level is unimportant here. Willingness to write and have fun is. Anyhow if you change your mind, let me know and you’ll be set to go.

Amanda, yes I did used to run Shooting Words as a blog for my own Korean study and life in Korea for a while. However I found myself unsure whether to write about things in my life or my Korean study and as a result ended up writing very little so I decided to close it.

In the near future (probably after I get back to Korea, I’m home at the moment) I may start a blog looking at Korean social issues as well as the odd anecdote from my life there (more like this blog - http://www.thegrandnarrative.wordpress.com)

For the meantime I’ll be doing my best to blog here where I won’t feel as much pressure to be posting all the time.
