Learn Korean Pronunciation from Songs

Total words: 89

Dear all

Greetings from Singapore. I just started Beginners Korean class. My teacher played for us the lovely song “My Memory” from the TV series “Winter Sonata”.  We followed the lyrics to practice pronunciation. It was fun. We learnt pronunciation quite quickly. But of course we did not understand the meaning of most of the words, or the grammar behind it.

Anyway, I like to download a MP3 version of “My Memory” to practise at home.  Do you know which Website has this song?  Kamsa Hamnida

  1. 안녕하세요. 삼년전에 이년통안 한국어 수업을 들었는대, 아직 한국어를 말하도 별로 찰 못 써요.  그런대, 요즘 한국어를 배워야 돼요.  In a similar fashion to using music to learn korean, I suggest we study from korean dramas.  I think an incredibly efficient way to learn languages is through emulation.  By watching dramas and pausing to repeat everything that was said, one could pick up not only new words and useful phrases, but also how to speak naturally.  The best way to do this would be to have a copy of the dialogue in both korean and english in front of us.  I propose that users of this site choose a drama series, invest in the korean&english subtitle edition, and we collectively transcribe the entire series.  For example, if there are 12 of us, I can always do minutes 10-15, etc.

This is my first post, and I don’t know how widely read this will be, but I really think this would be a good method to improve our korean.  Comments?  I propose something like 파리 의 연인 or 플하우스 for the drama.  Dramas, rather than movies, are better suited for this purpose because the dialogue is more like everyday conversation.  Let’s do this!!  I’m very excited about it.

    Hosh,
Welcome aboard. I think your idea sounds good except for the fact that I can’t stand Korean TV - melodramas and poor acting go hand in hand but it makes me cringe every time I turn on the tube.

However, I’m sure there are other fans of Korean TV who would be happy to join you. If you want to become an actual author here, register an id and then send me an email. I’ll change your permissions.

  3. To Hosh, transcribe what ? Are you aware that the Korean scripts of KBS’ drama are available for free ? As well as viewing them as VOD, subject to sufficient bandwidth, I think.
