Entry~

Total words: 271

Thanks for the encouragement Gord~ I’ll give it a shot:

다음에, 우리 DVD방에서 푸랑스 영화 봤어: “Brotherhood of the Wolf"~

Ok - so there’s my first attempt (actually that’s the first time I’ve ever published anything at all in Korean~)
How did I do?
I usually use a 영/한 사전 or translator when I chat with my 한국친구, but I thought for a blog like this, the point is to make mistakes and learn from them, so I just went with what came to me~ That’s about all the words I know in 한국어, so I can’t write too many blogs like that, or they’ll all just sound the same: “I went here...it was fun… I went there...it wasn’t fun...”.  raspberry

By the way, the only way I’ve learned Korean is from chatting with friends (cracked a book once or twice), so polite language is REALLY difficult for me...since I think I’m the youngest here, I guess that’s a bit rude.  Sorry~ ^^;; At least I don’t sound like a country Actually, I’ve learned most of my Korean from girls, so I tend to sound like a girl when I speak Korean...I wonder which one is worse…

That’s unfortunately true for many of us I think. Because women are generally easier to understand and more willing to talk to us our inflection and speech patterns tend to mimic those of our female friends.

Yes I too have been told I talk like a woman. Well what can you expect when your only conversation partner is your wife/gf. Hopefully I can convice the mixed couple across the street to speak Korean with me. Well at least the husband.

  4. Hmmm...poster #3~ ㅋㅋㅋ I can’t see your name for some reason…
Anyway~ Whops on the spelling:
Well, since I don’t know who you are...for all I know, you could be a really hot chick.  If that’s the case...ok, I’ll buy you fondue~ tongue laugh
I’ve been to the Swiss Chalet, and let me tell you from the mouth of a Swiss man (well...1/2 Swiss), don’t waste your money.  I haven’t tried 마르쉐’s fondue, but as of yet, the Swiss Chalet was the worst fondue I’ve ever had in my life.

I did find some packets at a shop around 한남 - expensive, but they’d be much better~ There was also a cheese shop outside 한남수퍼마캣 that had all the necessary cheese, and I could get the wine… I’m seriously considering making my own “melange” (for the first time in my life).

Anyone up for a wine and fondue party?

The only thing I don’t have, but could improvise is the caquelon (basically a big earthenware pot) and the stand/burner that go with it.  It would be a throw-together job, but one WELL worth doing.  A good fondue is BY FAR the best ‘eatins under the sun~!!!

Yeah I noticed the broken names. For some reason in comments Korean names are running about 50/50 on coming out right. I’ll be writing a support request on the Expression Engine forums soon.

Philip, if you can get to costco they have fondue pots there. I’m not sure how much, but I know I have seen them - you might also check out carrefoure or walmart if you are near either of those places.

  6. Hmmmm. So you don’t like Swiss Chalet.  Have you tried the fondue shop in 대학로 called 작은 스위스?  I wonder if that one is any better…

Yeah, I have been told I sound like a girl in Korean too. How can we resist not using those whiny inflectional tones?

I used to have my speech styles pretty clear because my textbook mostly used the 해요체, but now that I am taking classes at Ewha where 합쇼체 (~합니다 form) is primarily used and chatting to friends on MSN in 반말 it is all so screwed up when I talk. I don’t when I will ever get all this straight...adding 높임말 on top of that only makes it worse.
