After reading this article in the 조선일보 about the newly coined Korean words 된장女 and 고추장男, I was inspired to write a song based on the Korean version of “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.”
For those of you not up on the latest in Korean slang, here is a quick lesson to help with the lyrics:
- 별다방 = Starbucks (별 = star, 다방 = coffee shop...although the meaning has changed a bit recently)
- 된장녀 = Korean girls who frequent Starbucks-like American establishments, very concerned about apperance, etc. (read the article for a complete profile)
- 셀카 찍다 = taking a self-portait, usually with a built-in cell phone camera (셀 = self, 카 = camera)
Ok, here are the lyrics and the MP3 is attached:
된장女
빤짝빤짝 별다방
된장녀들 갔었어
셀카 몇 번 찍었어
오빠 불러 빨리 와
빤짝빤짝 별다방
된장녀들 갔었어
Disclaimer: In the rare chance that someone finds this song offensive, please understand that it was written with light-hearted jest and not aimed at critizing any particular group of people^^ (Come on, the 조선일보—of all newspapers—published an article about it!)
