In my elementary school class today I said 한국어는 외국일을 위한 한 언어가 안입니다. Korean is not for foreigners. They were so agreeing with me, they had no idea that I was a foreigner, their acceptance of this statement was 100% unconditional as true. Such blatant across-the-board conviction. I was floored. I know understand why I get compliments, and then the conversation stops. Nevertheless, despite these barriers, Korean is truly good for conversing with those who do not know English. If a Korean knows English, the foreigner will lose. However, in a case where the counterpart doesn’t speak English, appreciation is given in private when he/she is glad they can talk in a relaxed manner with the foreigner.

이제 부터 혼자 공부 하기로 했어요. 서강 어학단 수업이 거의 끝나고 영어 가르치느라고 봄학기 못 다녀요. 그래서 혼자로 공부 해야되요.

study hard 서강 한국어 4A 하고 6,000 essential vocabulary 하고 한국어 학습사전 샀어요. 그것 하고 Exciting Korean Listening 하고 내 아내 집에서 자주 한국말로 회화 하기로했어요. 그리고 대학교에서 같은 실력 동료 하고 같이 한국말 연습하기로 했어요. 연습 하는게는 3월부터 시작할거예요.

혼자 공부 하는게 아주 힘들거예요. 그래도 실력을 올리려면 그렇게 열심히 해야된대요! 화이팅!

내일모래부터 영어 가르치는 끝났어서 재일중요한 priority는 한국말 얀습 을 예정 하기로 했다. 처음으로 아네하고 집에서 아이들이 잠후에 한국말로 이야기 할거다.두번째 1주 한국dvd는 한국어 자막으로 1장 볼거다. 이번주말에 시간이 있으면 왕의남자를 볼거다. 셋번째 1주에 이브로그에서 한국말로 3번 쓸거다.

오월에 Exciting Korean Listening을 샀지만 거의 안봤어서 징피한다. 이제부터 1주에 1과 공부하거다. 그리고 새댁 요코짱의 한국살이는 아직 70쪽쯤 남았어서 그책는 다읽을거다. 그다음에 어쩐 친구가 다른 책을 비렸는데 제목은 “우동 한그릇” 라고 부른다. 그친구 가 나보다 한국말 실력이 조금 더 높는데 이책은 아마 나한테 맞을거다.

마지막번 날마다 숙재를 다 할거다 그리고 복습 와 예습 하기로헀다.

Well I’m sure there are tons of mistakes since I haven’t really written anything in Korean since last February. Anyhow yesterday or today we very briefly looked at journal writing and ending sentences with -ㄴ다 rather than -요. Since I handed in the writing book for corrections I don’t have any reference to see if I made a mistake or not. Hope what I wrote is readable.

After considering my recent lack of motivation and a desire to do something in Korean I have decided to plunge right into reading. No more childrens books. I’m just going to read adult fiction.

I was at Kyobo Bookstore today and was looking around the fiction section and was debating between two books, both written by Japanese authors. The first was Fly Daddy Fly but I chose 기묘한 이야기 because it was short stories and I could understand more when I read the first two pages then from Fly Daddy Fly.

I really am a poor student. I know what I should do but always seem to fail to apply it. I’ve fallen off the reading wagon. At first it was because I was too busy, but then it was because I was too lazy and now it’s because I’m not motivated to read the material I’ve got in addition to feeling a severe lack of vocabulary.

I’ve decided that I want to improve my vocabulary. However I really dislike flashcards and other traditional vocabulary acquisition methods. The best way to acquire vocabulary is to of course read material where you already understand 90-95% of the material, but I can’t seem to find graded readers in Korean that are interesting and material for little children is just not motivating to me.

Basically that leaves me with word lists and flash cards - unless someone can point me to a resource I am unaware of. I was looking at the word/morpheme lists in the download section, but cannot seem to figure out how to sort the lists by frequency. At this point I’m most interested in learning the 2,000 most common words in Korean excluding particles and other grammatical markers. Just give me the nouns, verbs, adverbs, adjectives and I’ll be happy.

I’ve also looked at the Korean Vocabulary List prepared by Sewing which is incredible. However it is organized alphabetically and not by frequency.
