Survey for Thesis

Total words: 168

Hello. My name is Hyeyoung Jung.

I’m a student of Kyunghee Graduate School, majoring in Teaching Korean as a Foreign Language. I want to conduct a survey for my thesis. This survey is designed to find out the actual conditions and needs for self-studying learners of the Korean language. The result of this survey will be used only for my thesis.

Sick

Total words: 71

I haven’t been doing any Korean blogging for the past while because everyone has been sick. First the baby was sick for 5 days, then my daughter, then my wife and now it appears I’ve finally caught this evil bug. Starts off as a nose cold moves into a body ache flu before ending with a hacking cough. Yuck.

Will start blogging again once I get well and get some time.

Baduk und Sprache

Total words: 96

German-speaking learners of Korean may be interested in a new blog (authored by Marcel Grünauer) that combines learning baduk with learning Korean called, appropriately enough, Baduk und Sprache.

hat tip to Kangmi.

In other news my daughter was sick all week and I couldn’t post here, do homework or much of anything Korean. I even missed a few classes as well. She’s fine now and tomorrow is the class field trip or 소풍. We are going to the 국민 음악원 near Nambu bus terminal. Will report, in Korean, on this tomorrow evening or on the weekend.

Reflective Language Learner

Total words: 226

Earlier today I recieved an email from a reader telling me about their blog.

hi, my name is ***** and i recently started a blog about learning cantonese. I was born in seoul and am half korean so there will be lots of stuff on korean also. anyways, i’m fascinated by languages and a lot of my entries are just my whole take on the language learning process. in any case, i hope you take a look. the address is http://houhousihk.blogspot.com/

I took a look and liked it so far. It is always interesting to read about anothers experience learning a foreign language. I in particular enjoyed Things I wish I Knew Before and Language Proficiency Tests and Why They Suck I agree that they suck, but not necessarily for the same reasons as the author. Anyhow go give 好好食 a read and see what you think.

Winter Semester

Total words: 71

I registered today to start Korean classes at Sogang this coming winter semester, December 4 ‘06 to February 22 ‘07. I’m pumped to be going back to Sogang and looking forward to classes. Clearly once I am back in study mode this blog will become a little more active.

Just a reminder to the other authors, this is a group blog. Hope to see you contributing again in the near future.

Korean Podcast Announcement

Total words: 179

About a month ago I posted about starting a Korean podcast for Learners. I recieved several emails from interested people and would like to thank everyone who offered to help out.

The Korean Language Podcast is going to be designed and maintained by myself with language lessons and materials produced by the fully qualified Korean language teachers at the LTRC. Charles found out about this project and talked to his wife who is one of the instructors at the LTRC. She was very interested and talked to the other teachers and administration and everyone was excited about starting the project.

It took a while to meet, due to conflicting schedules, but we finally met today and discussed several aspects of what we would like to do and decided to proceed. Our target launch date is the first week of September when we will have podcasts at multiple levels prepared with supplemental materials. Check back here for updates over the summer or post suggestions in the forums.

Korean Podcasts for Learners II

Total words: 51

The Korean Podcasts for Learners project is definitely underway. I’m meeting with a number of people and am expecting to make a major announcement before the end of the month with details. Unfortunately at this time I cannot provide any information.

Please be patient - this is definitely worth waiting for.
