the next time the bi-yearly exam is offered in Sept 13 (Sunday) if you’re in Korea and Sept 12 (Sat) for the rest of the 외국 world. But don’t let that fool you. Registratrion for the 16th 한국어능력시험 is July 1st ~ 15th (wed to wed). You can register through http://www.topik.or.kr/. Many 학원 in Korea will have a 3 month brush-up for the test, I’m seriouly considering taking one of those coming up here for the big push …

It’s a podcast, great for intermediate level learners and of course has the transcript. I’ll do my best to get more up soon.

P.S Why is it that whenever I try and link something it never works? I’m using the link button in the editor, can’t remember the HTML code to do a link..(yes I suck!)

Korea is the only country with a word processing program in wide use which is written only in their language. It’s called Hangul. It’s spell checker can check spaces and offer suggestions for spacing or typos. It’s a very helpful tool.

감수는 영어로는 proofreading이에요. 제게 어떤 일을 하느냐에 당하게 되면 감수이라고 해요. 어려운 말이라서 뜻이 모르는 사람도 있기는 해요. 한국에서 원어민으러써 어렵게 선생직을 안 해 감수에 집중하겠다는 힘드는 결정하기에 약 9개월이돼요, 이제.

I decided to release about 4 years of work on a korean-english dictionary as open source, which makes a lot of sense …. Just the background itself and the present status is worth a read. I would feel like I was tooting my own horn, except for the fact that it’s been probably 5,000 hours (untold by no stretch of the imagination) working on it, sadly, and there’s still so much work to do. If anybody ever wanted to be a lexicographer, as dictionary makers are called …. Things to do:
1) use it to expand a korean_english wiki projects
2) clean it up and make a script to merge the 6000 list with the korean_english table
3) add a table for conjugations linked by wordid
….

I’ve started a “new project”:http://koreanasitis.wordpress.com with the help of Korean native speakers I’ve met on “Lang-8”:http://lang-8.com that aims to produce authentic Korean listening content for intermediate and above learners who find themselves in the similar frustrating situation to me with the lack of stimulating intermediate-level content around (narrated at native-speeds and not in a patronising tone).

So far I’ve only put one transcript up for a sketch on Gag Concert but I already have one more and plan to put many more up soon. As well as getting transcripts written for existing TV shows and podcasts, I will be aiming to get native speakers to record diary entries with scripts too. I’ve had a positive response so far, let’s hope it can become like Joseph’s excellent resource of transcripts for K-Dramas on his listening blog on “ezcorean”:http://ezcorean.com/index.php?q=node/20.

Ideally I’d like to move away from using questionably-legal already existing content and make the site a big resource of copyright-free material with the help of willing native speakers. I’ll also be writing my thoughts on strategies for learning Korean when I allow my self gaps in my studying.
